Basic Computer Skills:
This multi-session course is designed to teach general, beginning skills for new computer users. The topics covered include physical components of the computer, Microsoft Windows navigation, MS Word basic commands, introduction to the Internet/email, file management, and typing.
This course runs for three weeks, four days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) from 10:00 AM-11:30 AM and all students are expected to attend every class.
Upon completion of the course, students will receive a certificate of completion.
Intermediate Computer Skills
The following classes occur monthly, similar to our monthly multi-session class. These classes are at an intermediate level so, we suggest participants have completed a Basic Computer Skills course or possess basic computer skills and have a working Gmail account.
These courses take place during the afternoons, from 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday).
If a student participates in at least 8 of the following 12 workshops, they will receive a Certificate of Completion.

Below is a selection of some of the workshops we offer. Workshop topics vary each month, and are offered three times towards the end of the month. Please check our calendar to see what is currently available.
This one-session workshop is designed for students who want to learn more about smartphones and how they work. Emphasis is on Android, but the topics covered apply to all smartphones. Topics include operating systems, phone manufacturers and models, home screens, notifications, apps, and basic phone settings. You don’t need to have a smartphone, just an interest in learning about them! Students can bring their own phones or can try out their skills on Tech Lab practice phones. If students have specific questions about their own phones or want to learn advanced smartphone topics, we recommend attending one of our tutoring sessions.
Students will review common gestures, learn the difference between Wifi and Data, and learn how to better manage contacts. Students can bring their own phones or can try out their skills on Tech Lab practice phones.
Students will learn how to update their phones and how to do so safely. Students will also learn what types of anti-virus applications they should install as well as how to be extra safe when using their smartphones in order to prevent themselves from becoming hacked or losing important and person information.
This workshop is designed to help our students learn how to be as safe as possible when using the internet and email. In this workshop, students will learn how to not only create strong passwords, but they will also learn how to avoid scams through email, and how to avoid becoming victim to possible hackers, viruses, or malware. They will also learn what type of personal information is safe and unsafe to put online.
This one-session workshop is designed for students to explore YouTube. Students will learn how to search for videos, create a playlist, comment, and like/dislike videos.
Students will learn how to create a professional resume using Microsoft Word. Students will learn what types of information is important to put on their resume, and how to correctly format their information. Students will also have the opportunity to start working on their personal resume, and the teachers will walk around for one-on-one support.
This one-session workshop explores LinkedIn and all of the different opportunities within. Students will learn how to create their own LinkedIn Account as well as how to navigate LinkedIn and search for particular employment opportunities.
