FREE CLOTHING PROGRAM
“A lot of people are struggling and can’t afford clothing. St. Anthony’s is definitely the place to come.”
St. Anthony’s Free Clothing Program is San Francisco’s largest free clothing program, providing warm clothes, interview apparel or workwear, and children’s clothing to homeless and low-income families and individuals. The Free Clothing Program at a glance:
- More than $3,000,000 in clothing donations from individuals and corporate partners per year and nearly 1,200 volunteer hours each month
- 36,000 pieces of new and like-new clothing distributed for free to nearly 10,000 guests each year (including more than 2,500 children)
The average family spends $700 per child on clothing each year (USDA, 2014); the majority of families have two or three children, which can mean spending $2,100 each year. For low-income or single parents struggling to pay rent while covering healthcare costs and other critical bills, a clothing budget may be nonexistent.
Donations of clean, like-new clothing and financial gifts make this program possible. We offer a convenient curbside donation drop-off in front of our building every day of the year. See hours and locations information below. Critical clothing needs are:
- Underwear (for men, women, and children)
- Coats and jackets (for men, women, and children)
- Pants, especially jeans (for men and boys)
- Socks (for men, women, and children)
- XL clothing (for men and women)
- Baby clothes
- Children’s clothes

We rely on the generosity and commitment of individual volunteers to make the Free Clothing Program a reality. Volunteers help us sort, quality check, hang clothing, and help to ensure that the shopping experience is enjoyable and productive for our guests. We welcome groups of volunteers in the Free Clothing Program as an essential part of our operations and service. The teamwork and collaboration of group volunteers helps us sort, quality check, hang clothing, and assist our guests in the shopping experience.
