What is STEPS? A Pathway to Stability

At. St. Anthony’s, we strive to provide individuals with stability and create a society in which all persons flourish. Along with meeting basic hygiene, food, and spiritual support, we also provide our guests with a pathway to a livable wage through job training and job placement. We envision a more prosperous city where barriers to employment are eliminated, and every member of the community is empowered with dignity through meaningful work.

STEPS is an acronym for St. Anthony’s Employment Pathways to Stability, formerly known as the Workforce Development & Transitional Employment Program.

“STEPS opens a door that might not be open for somebody who had doors of opportunity slammed in their face because of their past.”

Bryan Young, St. Anthony’s Chief Talent Officer

The STEPS Program includes job readiness training, transitional employment, on-the-job training, job retention and career coaching, and after-care services.

Why do we call it STEPS? There are many steps to finding and keeping sustainable employment. The STEPS team guides our community guests through the process from the beginning and supports individuals every STEP of the way. Many of our guests who receive job readiness training apply and are hired for transitional employment positions. This is a great opportunity for them to re-enter the workforce, gain additional skills and be part of the St. Anthony’s community.

If the initial process does not end in a Transitional Job Placement, candidates will stay in the Applicant Pool and will remain active for six months. After six months, candidates can reapply if still looking for a job.
