Stephen’s Story
A Life Well Lived.

Stephen West retired from a successful career in corporate finance in his early 50s for a higher purpose: caring for family. Not someone concerned with material possessions or a lavish lifestyle, Steve spent the last decades of his life caring for his parents and mother-in-law as their health declined, and then his beloved wife, Patricia. To Steve, this self-sacrifice wasn’t an obligation; it was a reflection of his responsibility and love for family.
In retirement, Steve applied the same diligence to managing his personal finances as he had in caring for his loved ones. Meticulously tracking every penny became more than a hobby for Steve; it was his job. He carefully managed his finances to meet his family’s long-term needs and help others by giving to charity. Believing every gift had the potential to make a positive difference in someone’s life, Steve scheduled modest monthly gifts to hundreds of charities annually, including St. Anthony’s, throughout his later years.
A life-long sports enthusiast who fondly remembered attending San Francisco Seals’ games as a child with his father, Steve’s zeal for sports was matched by his devotion to family and desire to help others – both through his philanthropy during life and decision to leave the bulk of his estate to St. Anthony Foundation.
As Steve neared the end of his life, he was comforted by his strong personal faith and the knowledge that his legacy gift to St. Anthony’s would be fulfilled – and one day give a hand to people who would need it most. For Stephen West, leaving a legacy of simplicity, selfless giving, and a commitment to care for others meant a life well lived.
