Hats Off to 75 Years of Our Caring Community: A Recap of Our Anniversary Luncheon
August 22, 2025

On Thursday, August 21, the St. Anthony’s community gathered at The Hibernia in San Francisco for a milestone event — our 75th Anniversary Luncheon, themed Hat’s Off to You! The celebration brought together the many communities that make up the heart of St. Anthony’s.
The afternoon opened with a lively reception and silent auction, complete with champagne and live music from the Gage & Gold Trio. Guests mingled with friends old and new while browsing one-of-a-kind auction items like a Feast with the Friars and 49ers box seats.
At noon, the program began in the historic Main Hall. Ceremony Hostess Roberta Gonzales set the tone with warmth and enthusiasm, followed by a moving blessing from Fr. Tom West, OFM.
CEO Dr. Larry Kwan offered words of welcome and acknowledgements before introducing Mayor Daniel Lurie, who spoke about how moments of care can uphold dignity and build community. Dr. Kwan then returned to reflect on the foundations of whole person care and the healing community that makes it possible.
We were deeply inspired by Mission Moments from:

Robin Polastri, longtime volunteer and past Board member, who spoke about finding abundance on the other side of fear: “Every time I jumped over the River of Fear and Doubt, I’ve been richly rewarded… I am grateful that God called me to St. Anthony’s so many years ago, grateful that I learned to walk with instead of walk by. I have been changed for the better through walking with the guests of St. Anthony’s.”
Efrain Gomez, graduate of the Father Alfred Center Recovery Program and now Dining Room Chef, who shared how the community at St. Anthony’s gave him the hope and tools to begin his recovery — and how he has 18 months sober and counting, showing up as a light for his daughter and his community.
The program also featured a recognition of our 75th Anniversary Generosity, the announcement of our Hat Contest Winner, Greg Boeddeker, and a celebratory toast — Hats Off to our Caring Community!
This day was made possible by the generosity of our sponsors and the dedication of our 75th Anniversary Honorary and Luncheon Committees. Their commitment ensures we can continue to offer integrated, whole person care for those in need in the Tenderloin.
As we look ahead to our next chapter, we are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us in celebrating this milestone. For 75 years and counting, St. Anthony’s has been — and will remain — a place of love and a healing community where all are treated with dignity and respect.
