Br. John Guttierez, OFM
Br. John Guttierez, OFM has returned to the Board of St. Anthony’s for the second time. He is also a member of the Definitorium, the body that acts as the Trustees of the organization. Br. John graduated from the University of San Francisco in 1972 with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, and he has been a Franciscan friar since the same year. He served in several missions in Northern California, including San Jose, Oakland, San Francisco and Sacramento and he considers the Bay Area his home. For most of his career as a friar, he also worked in Santa Clara Valley Medical Center – 21 years as a nurse’s aide in the Spinal Cord Injury Unit, and then 19 years as an Emergency Room Technician. He has been a staunch union activist in the Service Employees International Union for decades, though he is now mostly retired. In his retirement, Br. John accompanies young friars in the formation, most recently in the Inter-Provincial Postulancy in Silver Spring, MD. He loves taking road trips and visiting his nieces and nephews in San Jose.
