Orientations
We welcome and appreciate your interest in volunteering with us! To help you get started in your service partnership we've come up with a few guidelines:
|
|
|
 |
|
Age Requirements
We accept volunteers aged 13 years and older. Volunteers between 13 & 15 may volunteer in our Dining Room accompanied by an adult volunteer.

New Volunteer Orientation
It's not helpful to just "show up", as we schedule our volunteers in advance in order to secure the needed support to serve our guests.
The first step to begin volunteering with us is to attend a basic Volunteer Orientation. They are generally offered twice a month; every 2nd Saturday and Sunday (check the orientation schedule below for dates and exceptions). The Orientation is held from 10:30am - 12:15pm at 109 Golden Gate (between Jones & Leavenworth Sts.)
Orientatios cover the history of the Foundation, demographics of the neighborhood and of the people we endeavor to serve, descriptions of our various services, and policies and protocols for volunteering as an individual at St. Anthony Foundation.
Volunteers are asked to complete some simple paperwork at the end of the orientation.

Sign-up for an Orientation
Please just phone or email the volunteer coordinator with the orientation date that you will attend. Orientations fill up quickly, so please sign-up early.

Begin Volunteering
Following the orientation, we'll give you a "trial shift" date for the Dining Room. After your first shift, the Dining Room Coordinator will work out an ongoing schedule with you.
If you are interested in volunteering at any of our other work sites, your intake information will be forwarded to that work unit and you'll be contacted directly by their staff.

VOLUNTEER
ORIENTATION
New volunteers
are asked to attend a brief orientation before beginning their volunteer service at St.
Anthony Foundation. These orientations provide
information about the Foundation (its history,
values, programs and policies), our Tenderloin
neighbors and neighborhood, as well as an opportunity
to meet staff and other new volunteers. We look
forward to seeing you there!
Orientations are
held on the second Saturday and third Sunday
of each month (except for April, July, November & December; see below) from
10:30 a.m. to noon. Please arrive on time as it
is difficult to join orientations already in progress.

Enrichments
Volunteers do so much to enrich the lives of our guests, clients, and staff. The Foundation in turn, hopes that in addition to the direct satisfaction of serving, we are able to offer opportunities throughout the year that acknowledge, inform, and deepen the volunteer service experience. Enrichments offer volunteers an opportunity to learn more about issues of poverty and homelessness, to learn more about St. Anthony’s and to get to know and socialize with volunteers from throughout the Foundation.
Three times per year, we host "Volunteer & Staff Enrichments" that focus respectively on one of our work units; an exploration of service dynamics and ethics; and a recognition of community impact and involvement.

Town Hall Meetings
Annually, we also offer a week of "Town Hall" Meetings. These meetings are an opportunity to inform and update volunteers on the current happenings of the Foundation. They are also an opportunity for volunteers to share their experiences and offer feedback to staff.
This year’s Town Halls are currently scheduled for the week of September 17-21, 2007.

Volunteer Appreciation Event
Every year we pick a theme and transform the Dining Room for a great dinner party to honor and thank our dedicated volunteers. The evening is an opportunity to have fun and celebrate the work we do together. The volunteers make the delivery of our mission possible.
