One-day Group Visit

Groups interested in a day at St. Anthony’s participate in a Justice Education Day. The day starts with an orientation about the people we serve, and to our Franciscan values of caring for and serving the poor with dignity and respect. After their service work, our visitors "walk the walk" of our guests, waiting in line with them to share food and conversation in the St. Anthony Dining Room. After lunch, staff lead the group in a reflection on their experiences, and on the broader causes of poverty and homelessness.

Sample One Day Schedule

9:00 a.m.

A member of St. Anthony’s Justice Education team greets the group and provides an orientation to St. Anthony’s, the Tenderloin neighborhood and to our Franciscan values of loving and serving the poor with dignity and respect.  The orientation is tailored to be appropriate for the age of the group.

10:00 a.m.

The group is escorted to various service sites.  Volunteers may serve in a St. Anthony program or with one of our partner agencies in the neighborhood.

12:00 p.m.

Groups not serving in the Dining Room return to SAF (121 Golden Gate). Staff prepares them to join our guests, waiting in line to share lunch and conversation in the Dining Room.

1:00 to
2:00 p.m.

SAF staff leads the group in a reflection on the day’s experiences and on the wider reality of poverty and homelessness personified by our guests.

Program may be modified to fit to complement the content of your course or the focus of your service day.
