Green Team Revival

SAF’s  Green Team is re-charged, re-invigorated and has been revived. The Team never dissolved, just lay dormant because of all the major changes that the Foundation has gone through over the past seven years.  During the hiatus we still celebrated Earth Day each April and we always reminded staff to recycle, compost, conserve energy, take public transportation to work… to be Green.  Being that our main building at 150 Golden Gate Avenue is a gold LEED Certified Green Building and that the USGBC rated the soon to be reconstructed building at  121 Golden Gate Avenue as silver LEED Certified, the Foundation realized that the Green Team had to come out of its dormancy.

Our first meeting will be in September. We’ll brainstorm on attainable goals that are driven by the St. Anthony Foundation Values and Strategic Plan.

Just a few green practices at the Foundation are:

  • Composting and recycling  program  instituted in the Dining Room
  • Composting and recycling  in all staff break rooms
  • Glass, plastic, paper, and aluminum are recycled
  • Re-use of office products and furniture
  • Green Team Free Library for staff , guests and volunteers
  • Staff encouraged to use their own re-useable drinking  containers
  • Use of water pitchers full of  SF filtered tap water served at  meetings
  • Purchase  of bottled water for meetings and events is discouraged
  • Disposal of electronics and computer parts are e-wasted with responsible vendors
  • Encourage use of re-useable containers instead of plastic zip bags for brown-bag lunches
  • Grease from fryers collected and re-used as bio-fuel
  • All copy paper purchased are made of at least 30% recycled paper
  • Bicycle racks installed in building
  • Foundation Bicycle available for staff  to use for business in the community
  • Commuter Check Program
  • Company car – Prius
  • Use of environmentally friendly cleaning products
  •  Earth Day celebrated each year
